All the individuals that brainstormed on the  idea of  Minnesota Therapy Animals are honored to
have Kris Butler write the opening introduction for this resource.   The web site is a dream finally
realized.

Kris Butler is a nationally recognized trainer, instructor, author and authority on animal-
enhanced programs. Since 1979, her professional vision has focused on working with dogs to
improve the quality of people's lives. She's developed goal-directed programs for therapists and
special education teachers throughout the United States, and she has worked professionally
with her own dogs in therapeutic and educational environments.
Volunteers and their therapy animals are my heroes.  Throughout the United States,
therapy animal handlers make time in hectic schedules to bathe and groom their pets
and drive to community settings in which they visit.  Handlers do the preparatory work,
knowing their animals will get the credit.  Teachers, counselors, and therapists
sometimes work with their own animals, but more often they depend on some of the
thousand of dependable volunteers who show up with their pets to offer their special
brands of healing or education.

No one should accept the premise that working to enhance human healing, learning, or
quality of life is for a select few.  There are more opportunities to respond than most
people imagine.  The challenge for most people is finding the support they need to get
started.  For people in Minnesota, your search will end right here -- although your journey
has just begun.

MNTherapyAnimals.com is a much need, valuable resource - one that I hope will inspire
similar projects in other states as well.

August 2008 - Minnesota Therapy Animals is
celebrating it's first anniversary!
Surprisingly, it seems like this first year has zoomed by with constant changes on the MTA site.
Make no mistake, it has been the "contributing authors and consulting" individuals already doing
the work that they love that have taken the time to share their insight and knowledge with all of us.

On average, every quarter this first year, new features have been added.  This time around, the
additions focus on:  Animal Assisted Crisis Response (AACR) and Hospice & Palliative Care.

So what's ahead?  As you peruse through the site, most of the activities revolve around the metro
area.  We know there are numerous teams around in the out state areas and would like to make
sure they have the opportunity to make their presence know
n.  Buffalo area teams are growing in
number and the community has graciously welcomed them.

As we enter into year two, we look forward to hearing your ideas, articles, thoughts and insights.
They are always welcomed and appreciated.

If you are a periodic visitor to this site, you have seen
Teddy's picture gracing the main page from the time the
site surfaced on the net.  A couple of months ago, Teddy
left this world after many years of service.... to all the people
he just loved being with.   A tribute to Teddy can be read on
Heroes Forever page by his "partner" Cheryl Laurent.
